The Inter-American Model Law to Prevent, Punish and Eradicate the Violent Death of Women - Femicide
arises with the intention not only of combating femicide and violence against women at a regional, inter-American level, but also of implementing legislative and governmental standards to be followed by the OAS States Parties so that the mechanism for monitoring the implementation of the Convention of Belém do Pará (MESECVI) can, in fact, follow the evolution of the signatory countries in relation to the fight against femicide and violence against women.

“The objective of this law is to define and penalize femicides, as well as to strengthen effective actions of prevention, protection, attention, investigation, prosecution, punishment and comprehensive reparation to guarantee the right of women and girls to a life free from violence and stereotyped patterns of behavior. , in accordance with due diligence and other international human rights obligations.”
